Channel Frederator RAW

Hello, cult of RAW,
Reading Floyd's blog about the recent WIA event (sorry I missed it), it occurred to me how obscure many animation industry events are. Hell, I've been talking with people who weren't even aware of the LAAF and, now that RAW is public, we deserve a place to announce events (festivals, screenings, workshops, panels, et cetera). Of course, there should be some organization to it, so, if you know of an industry-related event, please post it making sure to include in the description a time, date, location, event type, and cost. Personally, I will post events with a regional heading because it sucks to get interested in an event only to find out that it's on the other side of the country. Hopefully this will boost community participation and foster continued learning in our respective fields. Here it goes.

If you are interested in the So. Cal. animation industry, you really need to be a member of ASIFA-Hollywood. They put on the Annie awards, host pre-release screenings and organize other events for cartoon fans. Come to Grauman's tomorrow at 7ish. We're screening Bee Movie. You can meet a bunch of nifty people, and there will hopefully be someone there for you to sign up with. asifa-hollywood.org

Thanks for the info. It's good to see the knowledge sharing commencing as planned ::mad scientist laugh::. Please continue posting ASIFA and IATSE events as well as local, college, festival and other news.

Do you read Cartoon Brew? Another great source for events. . .

Occasionally, I hardly have time to read anything, though (immersed in a film). Anyway, that's not quite the point, I started this discussion so that members everywhere could post and learn about events in their regions of the world. So. Cal. is great, but I know there's a lot going on in New York, Vancouver, Toronto, Australia as a whole and France. This would also be a good venue to post your own events (I'm looking at throwing a small party to celebrate the completion of my current project) and the little things that don't get much press. I hope this discussion can become the event catalogue that I had intended... maybe a group would be more appropriate.

I get all my animation event info from Cartoon Brew or Drawn!.

Then I see that 90% of them take place in LA and I get bummed.

For people in the UK, there's the Animated Encounters festival in Bristol on the 21st to 25th November. There's also the SAND festival in Swansea from 26th to 30th November.

I'm going to the Bristol one, and to the first day of the SANDS one as it deals with the business of animation. The Welsh Assembly may not be good for some things (their multi-million pound building has a leaky roof) but they're pretty good at supporting film production in Wales, whether it's live action or animation.

From what I can gather, the SAND festival is aimed at CG animation, if that helps.

This likely warrants it's own thread, but is anyone (else) on RAW attending NY Comic Con in February? Perhaps we could have a meet-up at the event.
