Am I crazy or does anyone else feel like like the "Cartoon" Network is secretly planning on becoming a live-action network?
It began with the success of "Re-Animated". I kinda like that movie myself, and it had the animation cross-over aspects. But then they decided to have a series of it, with much less and low quality animation and a weaker storyline. Then they start airing Goosebumps, and have another live-action movie with NO animation called "The Haunting Room: Don't Think About It". Up next we have the Ben 10 live action movie. This all has me uneasy. Before I counted on Cartoon Network to have cartoons all the time, I just can't do that anymore.

I read an article a while back about how live-action productions are more appealing to the tween set; that they command more money than before and that is what is influencing the Cartoon Network "shift".

Should we change the definition of "cartoon" because tweens are asking for live-action or should cartoon network change it's name to "Media Network"? I'm just curious to know if I'm the only one concerned about this turn of events.

damn tweens. Just old enough to want to spend money, but too young to get a job.. and too stupid to recognize real quality.

i wasn't too worried about goosebumps though. i cant imagine it running past November.. that and i grew up on that crap.

on the whole...tweens not liking animation/making a switch to live action thing.....
i dont think it necessarily has to do with the medium....i remember being a young'n and anime was getting real popular at the time and the reason was because it had more realism....and at that age you want more realism in the stories being presented to you.....you also dont want to be talked down to. theres not really any mainstream animations at the moment actually geared towards preteens and a whole lot of stuff that talks down to its audience.
....i actually doubt the live action switch will make much of a difference given they dont put more effort into the content.

Yes! It's all about the content.

I don't think there's a conspiracy, like a whole bunch of shady people sitting around in a conference room in Atlanta planning on how to get rid of all cartoons. Like several people have reiterated, everyone is looking for the next hit. But I do think, with recent events like the Writers Strike, that the way television is programmed and the way shows must go through grueling litmus tests even to get a pilot needs to change. I really think the advent of internet programming is here, waiting for someone to take the vast array of talents and ideas across the internet and combining them together into viral programming, including animation.

the title "Cartoon Network Conspiracy" was tongue-in-cheek. But, isn't life more fun imagining there IS a conglomeration of supervillians with the expressed motive or ridding the world of quality animated television programming? I know that thought makes me feel like a superhero, or at least a sidekick.

I can see it now, Lex Luthor, Black Manta, the Cheetah, the Joker, Sinestro, Captain Planet (for PR) and Ted Turner sitting in a dark room plotting to destroy cartoons and drive the world to chaos.

In all reality, Turner's a good fellow, but I'm sure the others hate cartoons...

Turner's a tyrant! WHO ARE YOU REALLY? I call NARC!

Maybe so, but we're talking about cartoons here... nothing else.

oh yeah! cartoons... (pun intended)

As the dust settles from that mammoth post, I'm left to say nothing but... ahem... quit complaining and make something better. That's what I'm doing (over the course of the next rest of my life). This thread has certainly done well to inspire me, but it's carried on so long that I just have to say, lets get back to work and change the world, already.

Anyone else think that Adult Swim is made up of the biggest whores on TV? They merchandise and pump out DVDs like nobodies business, then advertise ridiculous amounts of commercial spots to adult swim shows and promos. I understand that if a network has a good show, pumping out a DVD is wise for business, but Adult Swim markets EVERYTHING they show on their station, except anime. The bomb scare was the icing on the cake.

Sorry to get off topic, but I just wanted to point this out.

No, go ahead and get off topic, it's alright.
