Ottawa animation Festival 2008

Is anyone on the forums heading out to the Ottawa animation Festival this year in Sept.? This will be my first year in attendance and I am greatly looking forward to it. My old friend Ward Jenkins gave me the heads up that he was going this year and I just wanted to see if I would be able to meet some people from the RAW forums there.

Sax, I was supposed to attend and be on a panel, but I just got dinged with some work in New York. But, Eric Homan and Dan Meth from Frederator will be there, and Dan will probably be taking my panel spot.

…For any one who has already been to Ottawa, I was wondering does anyone here have any suggestions on what would be the best way of getting to Ottawa from New York (NYC, or Long Island area). By car, bus, train?

Is there anyone here going from the New York City, or Long Island area?

I think that Pratt students take Greyhound up to Ottawa, but I might be mistaken. Train's another option. Look into which is cheaper (prolly bus).

What should I take with me? Ottawa's nicely equipped for tourists, so if you ferget something yer covered...there's a big mall called the Rideau right by the venues (Bytowne cinema and the National Arts Center). Other than that, basic clothes n' toiletries for the week, plus drawing pad and pencils o' course. Might want to bring yer laptop...the NAC has free wi-fi.

How much money? It's a tourist town, so it ain't cheap, but if you grab yer meals at the small places in the Byward Market (again, right off the venues, try the Pita Pit and there's a great shawarma place) you should be able to get by on 2-300, also remember there's videos and books to be had at the Animarket, so budget a bit for that. Say 400 to be comfortable.

Do I need to book anything in advance besides the flight? A place to stay! If you don't mind chatting up some other animators and tourists with the morning meal, a bed n' breakfast is a great idea. I've been staying at a place called the Auberge des Arts, just down from the National Gallery. It's a 10-15 minute walk away from everything, nice house, comfy beds, quiet neighbourhood. Plus, the owner/operator's a great guy...he'll come pick you up from the train station or the airport! Here's a link:

Now for the question of submitting to the festival, I may or may not be a student at that time and here there are different qualifications depending on your status.

What do I need to do to get in or at least submit?

Would they take any of the animations posted on RAW?
