Yeah so I currently just transferred to Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, I think their animation department if relatively good. I want to go into traditional 2D animation and make cartoons like Spongebob, Flapjack etc.

But does it really really matter what school I go to? I've been stressing out because I'm afraid I should go to a better school more renown for animation like...SVA, SCAD, RISD, RINGLING, or CALARTS. Which apparently are all really good animation schools.

From my research I'm finding that what really matters is the artist, not the school that he or she went to.

gimme some advice guys?

CALARTS all the way! :) Thurop Van Orman (flapjack) went there and suggests it. If you wanna hear it from the man himself check out his dA, he almost always answers. http://thurop.deviantart.com

Alex:

It is not the art school that defines the artist; it is the artist who defines him or herself.

Strive to constantly and consistently improve your abilities. Work on it everyday, even if it's only 10 minutes, that time adds up. I try to spend 15 minutes each morning doing gestures drawings. I bring my sketckbook to work and use my lunch and breaks to draw. Sometimes, doing a quick sketch of coworkers milling about in the courtyard or it maybe something as simple as drawing basic shapes and creating some weird character. It doesn't matter what or how perfect it is. I have sketchbooks filled with good and bad drawings and try to learn something. Were my proportions off, my foreshortening, etc. Keep drawing dude. Don't let a name of a school deter you from a dream. Ultimately, it is you that is held accountable for your skills, not the company you hope to work for or the school you attended or graduated from.

I've met students from CalArts, Art Institutes, School of Visual Arts and many others. Their artwork ranged from the WTF is that to pure beauty. I could tell by the work which students struggled, but pushed themselves to improve and did so, and which students relied on their natural ability to get by. Those that put in the time got the jobs, those that didn't are most likely still seeking employment.
