Hey everyone, just thought it would be cool to get this group going, and see if it takes off. I'll start by introducing myself!
Kyle Mohr--I've only been freelancing around New York for just under 2 years. I'm a 3D Character Animator, have worked at Charlex, Framestore, Psyop, Tronic, and am currently working as a temp at Blue Sky. I've posted a bit about what I've learned about freelancing in New York on my blog. Getting started in New York seems to be a mystery to unravel, especially when it comes to knowing what "on hold" means! So my blog has a few tid-bits for newcomers, as well as other cool animation related stuff.
There ya go, short and sweet! Go on and introduce yourself!
Andrew N. here -- I think it's great to start a ny animation group, always nice to meet new people from the ny neighborhood. I'm a recent animation grad from SVA so I'm still trying to break into this whole animation world; freelance, part-time, internship…I don't have a whole lot of experience yet so I'll take whatever, but in the meantime I'll work on my own projects, and at my regular job. I'm a traditional animator, but I like trying new things so I started to learn Maya and Flash.
So i've finally decided it's time to get connected, meet some people, share works... in other words, decided to stop being lazy. This group is a great idea and I plan on supporting it.
For those who don't know me, my name's Nick Dubois, I am currently hailing from the other end of NY, in Buffalo. The pay is not terribly high here, due to the surroundings, but it's comfortable and proportional. Not to mention, Canada is a stone throw away, in Niagara. Good stuff. I'm an animator at IBC Digital, currently working on PBS' shows with Hooper. Other projects have included Disney's Choo Choo Soul, some things from Reeses', and other random commercials not really worth mentioning. Either way, it's a good 2 years start and will help me on to my next workplace.
Anyways, Kyle, I'd like to help make this group strong and fun.
I'll say Hi too.
I'm Elliot.
I'm Australian and have been living in London for the last year and a bit.
Now I seem to be in NYC most of the time.
I've been working on a couple of film projects for Uli Meyer Animation (for London from here).
Kyle - you may know my pal Joan Cabot, a Spaniard who's at Blue Sky.
Hey there everybody, I thought I'd say hello as well. I'm freelancing from New Jersey but living close enough to NY and I'm looking for work in the city. It does seem to be a mystery as to the best way to get your foot in the door. I've done some things here and there and recently graduated so now I'm pounding the pavement hard. In the off time I'm working on finishing up my current film and making bizzare stuffed dolls as well. I'm diggin' fred raw and look forward to watching it grow.
