Evan, I would love to see your current list, I'm also in the process of doing the same. Are you looking in a particular area in the field (3d animation, 2d, flash, rigging, modeling, story, etc.) and are your looking in certain locations? Again ...

Tell us your story:
Brand new Coal Polisher (intern) at Mighty Fudge Studios in Boulder Colorado. Currently working towards an animation degree from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco via their online program. Excited to get my feet wet in the business here at Mighty Fudge, learn from the experience that Pat has, gain some experience of my own, and meet others either in the business or trying to get into this sick and wonderful business we call animation.
Hometown:
Vail, Colorado
About Me:
I'm 24/m from Vail Colorado, about 6'2 love long walks on the beach...
Currently an intern at Mighty Fudge Studios. Born and raised in Vail Colorado, so i love to ski and be outdoors. Wanted to animate and draw cartoons since i was..oh...I'd say about, yay big. Having a blast animating and seeing my creativity come to life. Love sports, movies and just about everything animated.
Favorite Cartoons:
Where to start, Looney Tunes, Tex Avery stuff, Pinky and the Brain, South park, Family Guy, SImpsons, Classic Nicktoons (Ren and Stimpy, Roco's Modern Life, Doug, etc.) Futurama, Fairly Odd Parents, Spongebob, whatever else i have time for.

Alot of the same as the favorite cartoons, in addition though i'm a HUGE Lost junky. I also enjoy Prison Break, 24, and a few reality shows (guilty pleasure). Also any sports that are on television.
Favorite Comics:
Been a while since i read any Comics, but used to like Zits, Dilbert, Far Side, Bizzaro, most of the comics in the paper.
Favorite Books:
Books, they still have those. Lately it's been a lot of text books. And books on the industry, but since i'm into that they are fun and informative reads.
Favorite Artists or Illustrators:
Yikes, well obviously Patrick Mallek (is there something there on my nose), Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Brad Bird, John Lasseter, anyone who can make me laugh with their drawings.

Favorite Robots:
Anything that makes life easier, Like for instance the Dishwasher.

Student becomes Teacher

My blog post comes early this week. By at least an hour as I have been relieved of a duty. The office cleaning duties I would normally be performing at this time are being completed by the new intern Chris.

Chris joined us this week at Mighty Fudge, and will be with us for one more week learning more than he probably ever wanted to know about a small up and coming animation business. It's been nice having someone else in the office who I can chat with and can't boss me around. He also does all… Continue

Movin' On Up!!

Seems that with everything that's going on these days I only get a chance to blog at the end of the week. That being said this week has been awesome. The week was short, always a good thing, and busy, but my hard work is starting to pay off. At the beginning of the week I learned that I would no longer be at the bottom of the Mighty Fudge food chain, at least for a couple of weeks, as we are getting a new intern starting next week. What does this mean for at least two weeks I don't have to take… Continue

End of the Week

Well, I just finished vacuuming, taking out the trash, and cracked open a beer, which means the week is over and a long weekend is upon us. Another busy week at Mighty Fudge, but probably one of the calmer ones considering what's ahead. Exciting time to be an intern and be a part of the process. Obviously I can't say much here about what we're working on, but hopefully soon enough you'll all be able to see all the hard work we've been putting in, from both an animation stand point and a design s… Continue

Animating Animals.

My boss brought the dog into work today, and just sitting here and observing it, because that's what we animators do is observe stuff, thought about how many little things go into making a dog a dog. This got me thinking about successful animation of dogs in cartoons today. One of my favorites is Brian from "Family Guy" though not your typical dog, I think it's great the jokes they use referring to real dog tendencies. From the tail wagging, to the sniffing I think these characteristics help rem… Continue

Mighty Fudge is not a Candy Shop (Per Se)

Had someone walk into the studio today asking what we did here at Mighty Fudge. We told him we did animation and design work. He was kind of surprised when he found out we didn't make fudge or candy. We do however make eye Candy. And like candy that rots your teeth, some of the stuff we do here could certainly rot your brain. But no we're not your typical Candy Shop. Though I should talk to someone around here about keeping a constant supply of fudge around.

Hey Andy! Thanks for the nice comment on "Wright Meat". You got nice stuff too! It took me a month to animate the cartoon. Flash makes everything go alot faster! Take care!

Wow, it is a small world. I actually do still work in Gypsum and live in Eagle, and I do, in fact, work as a designer for the Vail Daily. I'm currently considering a move back east but I'm not sure about the job prospects. So you're in Boulder now, huh? And animating? That's pretty awesome. How's Boulder compared to the Vail Valley?

"I've used those rigs as well for my demo reel. How do you like maya?? Still in the process of learning but enjoying so far"

Thanks Andy. Yes... it seems that Jason Baskin's Bloke rig is getting quite popular. Its nice for people who don't really want to spend the time working on rigging in order to concentrate on animation.

How do I like Maya. Hm.. well I suppose after a fashion I like it as much as I like photoshop, or brushes, or pencils or pens or whatnot. It works well enough. I'm used to it I'd say. Good to hear you're learning it. Keep on trucking...

If I went back it would be little bit of both animation and graphic design. I think I'd like to just be able to have a piece of paper to hand potential employers so they know I went to school for that.

Seems to be the trend these days.

Funny you asked that.

I actually went to school for computers because at the time I was influenced from various people in my life to seek something that would bring definite income.

Funny thing is.. it really made no difference, I still ended up doing something that I could have done right out of high school.

At this point I think I'm going to go back and get a degree doing what I like. Not sure if it'll help, but why not?

So .. no I haven't had any professional training as far as my drawing or animating goes. It's either natural or self taught. Take your pick ahhaha

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to look at my work. I had trouble especially with the timing of the opening shots. I was afraid that if I cut them too short everything would feel too rushed and I guess I overcompensated.

Critiques are always welcome so feel free to comment on my work in the future. Thanks again:)
