This summer, I worked as a Lead Animator on the 2.5D animated end credits for "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"! Working almost entirely in After Effects, we created and animated 2D versions of the main characters from the movie placing them into 3D(2.5D) environments.
The design and animation style was meant to feel like "vintage" cut-out animation like the old animated oddity "Twice Upon a Time". We even removed smooth inbetweening in some places to give it a more old-school stop-motion cut-out look.

Morgan WIlliams began animating while attending the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minnesota in the late 80's. He started working at Mike Jones Film Corporation, a commercial animation studio in the Twin Cities, after leaving MCAD in '92. Morgan left MJFC to freelance for a few years before accepting a job as animator/director at Reelworks Animation Studio in Minneapolis, also a commercial animation studio, where he remained for 10 years creating animation for advertising, children’s television and short films. His work combines traditional and digital animation and includes the award winning short film, Fool Throttle, a music video for Oakland, CA's The Heavenly States, and animated work for Sheryl Crow's Wildflower tour. Morgan now lives and works with his wife in Sarasota on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida where he recently worked as Lead Animator on the 2D end credits of Sony's new feature "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs".
