Yeah... sometimes flash can look a bit too "flash-y". Too much tweening is not a good thing.

You can do hand drawn at home if you get a few things:
-peg bar/registration. This (http://www.characteranimationin3d.com/2d%20animation%20equipment.htm) website shows you how to make your own.
-light box, you can make your own or buy one from a craft store for a reasonable price.
-camera/istopmotion. Any cheap digital camera, still or video. istopmotion can be purchased for about 40$ (the beginers version).
-Books. Timing for Animation by Harold Whitaker is great, as well as The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams
-lots 'o time and patience.
Sorry if this is too much. This is just stuff I wish I would have known to start animating earlier. Hope I helped.
