This brilliant cartoon came from an issue of National Lampoon, from the late 70's or early 80's, ( back when it was still funny, anyone remember O.C. and Steigs?).
I can remember 1 year when I had a comfortable chair. That was the year the studio closed.

I once attended a taping of Conan O'Brien's show. They keep the studio freezing cold. We were told the reason for doing so was that cold is conducive to comedy. Hot rooms tend to lull the audience. These are the reasons why I keep the thermostat in my studio at 50 degrees, sit in a crappy chair, and stick a paperclip in my eye.
